12/17: The Myth of Charter Schools
This was published late last year. Diane Ravitch was one of the original proponents of charter schools. She has since changed her mind after seeing the system in action.
11/14: "Taxpayers Get Billed for Kids of Millionaires at Charter School"
Bloomberg does a great awareness story on Bullis Charter and the scourge of "boutique charter schools" in general.
10/31: BCS Prop 39 Facilities Request
Here BCS throws down the gauntlet: they want the Gardner Bullis Campus or else. And they want it now. This campus makes no practical sense for a school the size of BCS and would effectively double the number of kids, parents and cars coming to that site on a daily basis, and is the lot is the wrong shape to expand. The rumor is that the Gardner campus ask is just a trap: the minute they get this campus they will immediately turn around and sue the District for the hyper-expensive additions they will need. Other BCS supporters have talked about taking over the Covington campus as well. As little rational sense as it makes, Gardner is the "promised land" for the founders of BCS. Not getting this campus is akin to "losing" their grudge match, which is the only reason this school exists in the first place.
10/27: Appeals Court Finds in Favor of BCS
As LASD parents, this was our "Pearl Harbor moment". Whereas before parents could generally ignore what was going on at BCS, if this ruling is allowed to stand (it is now being taken to the Supreme Court), we stand to lose our public schools here in Los Altos and Hills. This ruling so emboldened BCS supporters that they now speak of taking "several schools" and want our kids out of their current ones as soon as possible.
